Central Weighing is awarded prestigious contract to protect Denmark’s largest road bridge.

Mr Peter Abrahamsen of JVA and Richard Stokes Managing Director of Central Weighing formed a close co-operation to secure this most prestigious contract as part of the largest engineering project in the history of Denmark.
Denmark consists of the Jutland Peninsula and more than 400 islands, the largest of which are Zealand and Funen. Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital is located on Zealand. The ferries which have run for centuries between the islands were frequently disrupted by bad weather. The most important of these routes was between Funen and Zealand.

In 1987 The Danish parliament approved the project to construct a fixed link across The Great Belt. The link consists of the East Bridge a 6790m long suspension bridge, a 6611m combined rail and road bridge and an 8000 m long rail tunnel.
At 252m above sea level the East Bridge towers are the highest points in Denmark and large volumes of traffic now use the East Bridge including many heavy special movements trucks, for which the weights were uncertain as they were impossible to weigh on conventional weighbridge systems.
Central Weighing was chosen to develop special “In Motion” axle weighers which have been located in the toll lanes to detect overloads. Vehicles can be refused entry to the bridge or fined in accordance with the level of overload found.
The systems were installed under the supervision of Central’s exclusive distributor in Denmark, Messrs Jydskvaegtfabrik based in Risskov.
